This is a versatile instrument made to my own design, but inspired by pictures and carvings from the 14th and 15th centuries. The construction is very light overal with gracefull in-curved sides and a mimimum or no internal support. It has a strong, rich and resonant sound and is ideal for both vocal accompaniment and instrumental playing. I have made these vielles with flat and carved fronts (carved fronts having no added support) and bridge curvature and string length can be more or less to suit.
