This is a treble viol after John Hoskins 1609. The string length is 40cm making it particularly suitable for all gut stringing, and it is made with a seven piece bent front. The body is made from lightly figured maple from the UK and the fingerboard and tail piece are figured English walnut. The pegs are made from holly that I cut and dried myself from a very local source (my brothers back garden in Bath!). This instrument was played by Susanne Heinrich in a maker’s demonstration recital at the Greenwich Early Music Festival in November 2010. If you prefer covered strings for the bottom two, it's no problem to change them over. A custom made Kingham case is available with the instrument.
